Field Notes
Our hiring process is designed to be transparent, efficient, and respectful of your time. From application to onboarding, the typical timeline is 10–15 business days for qualified candidates. We believe that the application process itself should reflect our values: clear communication, defined expectations, and mutual respect.
Complete the form below with your contact information, role preference, portfolio links, and cover letter. Applications are reviewed within 3 business days of submission. You'll receive an acknowledgment email within 24 hours confirming receipt.
Our editorial team reviews your submitted portfolio, writing samples, or technical work against our quality standards. We assess analytical rigor, writing clarity, domain expertise, and alignment with our editorial voice and methodology.
Qualified candidates are invited to a focused video conversation with our editorial director. We discuss your background, interests, working style, and fit with our remote-first culture. This is a two-way conversation — bring your questions.
Selected candidates receive a paid trial assignment representative of actual project work. This is compensated at your agreed rate and gives both sides a real-world test of working together before committing to an ongoing engagement.
Successful trial assignments lead to a formal 1099 contractor agreement with defined scope, deliverables, compensation, and timeline. Onboarding includes platform access, editorial guidelines, style guide review, and introduction to the team.
