Data & Analytics Engineers

Build the data infrastructure powering Nashville's most comprehensive Super Bowl intelligence platform. Design pipelines, engineer dashboards, and architect the analytics layer that transforms raw economic data into real-time business intelligence for an entire city's preparation effort.

Field Notes

What You'll Build

As a Data & Analytics Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain the technical infrastructure that powers our entire market intelligence operation. Our platform tracks economic indicators across six industry verticals, monitors hotel development pipelines, aggregates visitor spending data, and delivers interactive dashboards to Nashville's business community. You won't just be writing queries — you'll be architecting the data layer of a platform that influences real business decisions for thousands of Nashville stakeholders. You'll work with government datasets (BLS, Census, STR, TSA), proprietary industry data, and real-time web scraped indicators to build a unified data warehouse that feeds our editorial team's analyses, our public-facing dashboards, and our automated reporting systems. The ideal candidate is someone who can build an end-to-end pipeline from ingestion to visualization and enjoys the challenge of making complex, multi-source data accessible and actionable.

The Desk

Core Engineering Responsibilities

  • 1
Analytics Pipeline DevelopmentDesign and implement ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest data from government databases (BLS, Census Bureau, STR), industry APIs, web scraping sources, and manual data entry systems. Build robust, fault-tolerant pipelines that handle schema changes, missing data, and source outages gracefully. Implement data quality checks, validation rules, and alerting for pipeline failures.
  • 2
Interactive Dashboard EngineeringBuild and maintain interactive, web-accessible dashboards using Tableau, Power BI, or custom D3.js/Observable implementations. Dashboards must be mobile-responsive, performant with large datasets (100K+ rows), and designed for non-technical business users. Key dashboards include hotel market trackers, visitor spending monitors, infrastructure milestone timelines, and vendor marketplace analytics.
  • 3
Data Warehouse ArchitectureDesign and maintain the centralized data warehouse that serves as the single source of truth for all platform analytics. Implement dimensional modeling (star/snowflake schemas), manage data governance policies, and ensure consistent metric definitions across all downstream consumers — from editorial reports to public dashboards to automated alerts.
  • 4
API Development & IntegrationBuild and maintain RESTful APIs that expose platform data to front-end applications, partner integrations, and automated reporting systems. Implement authentication, rate limiting, and documentation (OpenAPI/Swagger). Integrate with third-party APIs including government data portals, hospitality analytics platforms, and real estate listing services.
  • 5
Data Quality & MonitoringImplement comprehensive data quality monitoring including freshness checks, completeness validation, statistical anomaly detection, and cross-source reconciliation. Build alerting systems for data quality degradation and pipeline failures. Maintain documentation of data lineage, transformation logic, and metric definitions for the entire platform.

Tech Stack & Requirements

Our stack prioritizes reliability, maintainability, and the ability to iterate quickly. We value engineers who can make pragmatic technology choices and build systems that other team members can understand and extend.

What You'll Work On

These are real, active projects you'll contribute to immediately upon onboarding. Each project has clear specifications, existing documentation, and defined success metrics.

Hotel Market Intelligence Dashboard

Real-time dashboard tracking Nashville's 40,000+ hotel rooms across 300+ properties. Integrates STR data, construction pipeline records, and Airbnb inventory tracking to model Super Bowl week occupancy and revenue projections by property tier, location, and brand affiliation.

Transportation Demand Model

Predictive model for Super Bowl week transportation demand across BNA airport, rideshare services, public transit routes, and parking infrastructure. Ingests historical TSA throughput data, rideshare pricing APIs, and traffic sensor data to generate capacity planning scenarios.

Economic Impact Tracker

Automated quarterly report generator that pulls BLS employment data, Census business patterns, Nashville convention & visitors bureau statistics, and construction permit data to track Nashville's economic trajectory leading up to Super Bowl LXIV.

Vendor Marketplace Analytics

Analytics engine for the vendor marketplace platform, tracking vendor registrations, profile completeness scores, search analytics, and conversion metrics. Provides insights that help vendors optimize their profiles and helps our team prioritize marketplace development.

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ Years Data Engineering ExperienceProfessional experience building and maintaining data pipelines, warehouses, and analytics infrastructure in a production environment. We value practical, ship-it experience over theoretical knowledge. If you've built something that runs in production and serves real users, we want to hear about it.
  • Python & SQL ProficiencyStrong Python skills for data manipulation, pipeline development, and API integration. Advanced SQL skills including window functions, CTEs, optimization, and query performance tuning. You should be equally comfortable writing a complex analytical query and building a Flask/FastAPI service.
  • Data Visualization ExpertiseHands-on experience building production dashboards in Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent. Understanding of data visualization best practices, accessibility requirements, and performance optimization for large datasets. Experience with custom web-based visualizations (D3.js, Observable, Plotly) is a significant plus.
  • Self-Directed Problem SolverAbility to take a loosely defined analytical problem, break it down into engineering tasks, build the solution, and document it for the team — all with minimal supervision. Our team operates asynchronously, so you need to be comfortable making technical decisions independently and communicating your reasoning clearly in writing.
